Bilingual teachers make provisions in both Spanish and English to strengthen the students’ vocabulary, oral development, and reading skills. Magrill’s ESL classrooms are available for our students who have a background in the English language but may need additional language experiences to ensure success in developing oral language and beginning reading skills. Instruction in these classrooms is provided in English. Special Education Programs. Programas de Educación Especial

Magrill follows two ways to address the needs of children with disabilities. One way is PBAT (Play Based Assessment Team). They assess students before their third birthday. Parents take the initiative, by expressing their concern, and children are scheduled and assessed by the PBAT team, if the child qualifies he is placed in the least restrictive environment. Based on individual student results students are placed in any one of the following programs that best meets their needs: Speech Impediment, Resource, Inclusion, Structure Early Language Acquisition Skill (SEALS), and Structured PPCD (Pre-K Program for Children with Disabilities).

When a child is enrolled in PK and teachers or parents have a concern about a child’s speech or cognition, a referral process begins. The Early Intervention Team meets to decide how to best meet the needs of the student by providing research-based interventions. Based on the progress a student makes with the interventions, the EIT committee decides if a referral to Special Education is necessary.
